Lockton hires Matt Kendle to head new Construction and Design Practice

London, Wednesday 1 July 2026 - Lockton, the world’s largest independent insurance broker, has appointed Matt Kendle to lead its newly established Construction and Design Practice.

Matt joins from Marsh, where he served as a Managing Director, leading its international construction sector offering. He brings more than 20 years’ experience in construction and infrastructure insurance and brokerage.

His appointment follows Lockton’s strategic decision earlier this year to consolidate its construction-related teams from across the business into a single, 70-associate-strong practice. The new practice brings together the firm’s UK and International Construction, Energy and Power, Contractor and Design Firm Professional Liability, Casualty Construction, Surety, and Claims teams under his leadership.

The move strengthens Lockton’s commitment to the construction sector, which has been central to the firm since its founding in Kansas City in 1966. This longevity makes it one of the longest-standing specialist brokers in the space. The new practice will play a key role in driving the next phase of Lockton’s growth strategy in the UK, US and other international markets, while expanding the firm’s construction and infrastructure client base.

Gary Doran, Head of Global Energy & Power and Construction Practice, Lockton, said:
“The construction industry is at the heart of Lockton’s heritage. The creation of a dedicated practice under Matt’s leadership underscores our long-term commitment to delivering market-leading risk management and advisory services to clients worldwide.

“With ambitious growth plans in London, the US and globally, Matt’s industry credibility and relationships make him an excellent fit for our client-first culture.”

Matt Kendle, commenting on his appointment as Head of Construction & Design, said: “Lockton has built a practice that is well-respected within the construction and infrastructure sector – it’s one that speaks for itself and joining the business is a privilege.

“Creating a single 70-strong team is a powerful statement of intent and commitment to supporting our clients at a pivotal time when the sector is being fundamentally reshaped by their increasing need for smarter, integrated risk thinking.

“I'm excited to be leading this new team and helping to drive the next phase of Lockton's growth ambitions in the UK and across its international operations.”
